THE FELLOWSHIP HALL AND MINISTRY CENTRE

This building will house a pastor's office, a secondary office, a conference room, a reception hall, a commercial kitchen, a library, a ministry office and work room, up to eight classrooms. The design of this building will complement the Temple and be accessible via a small, landscaped courtyard. It will also share combined parking, septic and waste removal facilities. This project has been designated at either Phase II or III.

THE ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY

It is modeled after the historic estate of St. Basil the Great (4th C.) and his mission to help the poor, the sick and the dying. This ministry will function as a separate, not-for-profit entity, associated with St. Mark Orthodox Church. This home would allow those who would otherwise need to relocate or become more isolated from the Church community to remain integrally connected to the life and mission of our community. With a primary focus on self-care, this facility would allow for the most holistic approach to assisted care: that is caring for the physical, emotional, social, financial and spiritual needs of its residents. The staff of this facility would include licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, homemaker assistants, chef and lay-volunteers. Consultants to this home would include a social worker, a pharmacist, an activity coordinator, a nutritionist and a medical director. This home seeks to provide the following types of services: regular nursing assessments, teaching, medication set up, assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing and housekeeping, meal preparation and set up, regular church services and pastoral care, social events and special functions.

At this time we have a preliminary design to build a six bedroom home that would include a chapel, a library, an all-purpose living room, a common kitchen and dining room, laundry facilities and staff office. Each resident would have their own private screened in porch, handicapped washroom facilities, a small kitchenette (i.e. sink, small refrigerator, microwave and cabinetry).

This facility will have a governing board including health care professionals, the parish pastor (or his representative), other local community representatives and a parish council representative as an ex officio member. Residents would be admitted based primarily upon medical and/or physical need, not on their race, creed, gender, religious preference, sexual orientation or the ability to pay. Residents may or may not be established communicants of St. Mark Orthodox Church. Residents will comply with all necessary licensing requirements of this facility. Residents understand that they will have no rights of ownership in this facility and will complete a provided renter's agreement. Special financial circumstances will be handled discretely by the parish pastor, the facility administrator and a designated governing board representative.
